India's largest rose garden with 20,000+ varieties spread across five scenic terraces on Elk Hill, Ooty — awarded the Garden of Excellence by the World Federation of Rose Societies.
The Government Rose Garden in Ooty, also known as the Centenary Rose Park or Jayalalithaa Rose Garden, is a breathtaking floral paradise nestled on the slopes of Elk Hill in Vijayanagaram, at an altitude of 2,200 metres above sea level. Established in 1995 to commemorate the Centenary Flower Show, this stunning garden sprawls across four hectares of terraced hillside and is maintained by the Tamil Nadu Horticulture Department. Home to over 20,000 varieties and 2,800 cultivars of roses sourced from across the world — including Hybrid Tea Roses, Floribunda, Ramblers, Miniature Roses, Polyanthus, and rare varieties like Black and Green Roses — it stands as one of only 35 gardens globally to receive the prestigious Garden of Excellence Award from the World Federation of Rose Societies. Visitors are treated to panoramic views of Ooty town, fragrant rose-lined pathways, terraced lawns, arched rose tunnels, a famous angel statue, and informative botanical signboards.
